Happy to announce that our company – Internship in Mexico – has grown! About six months ago, Carmen joined the company as co-owner. Carmen tells her story in this blog!

About me

Like Sunny, I was born and raised in the Netherlands. My adventure in Mexico began about three years ago. I was an exchange student in Guadalajara, Mexico, for four months. In January this year, I decided to return to Mexico. In total, I lived in this amazing country for about 10 months.

Where it all started

I studied for the Bachelor of Business Administration at Avans Hogeschool in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands. In 2019, I got the chance to go abroad on an exchange. One thing I knew for sure, I wanted to go somewhere other than Europe to experience a completely different culture. I decided to go to Guadalajara, Mexico and study at ITESO Universidad Jesuita de Guadalajara. Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect, but the country overwhelmed me.

Exchange student

Together with other international students, I did the exchange program at ITESO. The university campus is incredible because it’s so green and has many sports facilities. The Mexican students are very nice and excited to show their country and culture. It is also where I met Sunny. I had a great time in Mexico and knew it definitely wouldn’t be my last time there.

Co-owner Internship in Mexico

After completing my Bachelor’s, I studied for my Masters in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. During the Masters, in January 2022,  I decided to return to Mexico and I came back for a new experience. I worked for an international student house, helping with administration, and organizing events and trips. Along the way, I improved my Spanish. After two months, Sunny and I got the idea to work together. In April 2022, it was official, and I have been working at Internship in Mexico ever since. It is great to see the company grow and help other students with the same incredible experience we had.

What’s next?

After six months, I returned to the Netherlands, and Sunny and I have been working from two continents ever since. I will complete my master’s in 2023 and see what comes next, but I am sure my adventure in Mexico is not over yet.
